Welcome to Wiltshire's Premier Golf Course

Set in the glorious Wiltshire countryside close to the medieval City of Salisbury, the course offers magnificent views for miles around. It is probably the finest downland course in Southern England where visitors are made most welcome.

All 27 holes are maintained to a very high standard by a dedicated team of professionals, with the quality of the greens and the presentation of the course highly praised by golfers throughout the year.

Once you have enjoyed the experience of playing this unique golfing venue, the challenge of the courses and the ambience of the clubhouse, you will come back time and time again.

Ladies Section

Lady Captain 2012

Elsie Spaven

A very warm welcome to the Salisbury & South Wilts Ladies Section, which has 77 full playing members.  We believe that Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club is the friendliest Club in the region, where ladies of all ages and handicaps may come and enjoy playing golf.

Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club has been in existence since 1888, although it was not formally instituted until 1898.  The first course of 8 holes was at Dogdean Farm in Homington.   The club moved to a site on the Race Plain in 1895 and with the kind permission of Lord Pembroke a nine hole course was built and renamed South Wilts Golf Club.  From the beginning South Wilts welcomed ladies and on the 8th December 1900 the Ladies Section was formed with a membership of seven.  The start of the ladies section, its growth and prosperity, can be directly attributed to the energy of Miss Vera Pinckney who was Lady Captain no less than 17 times between 1900 and 1924.  The first Lady Captain was a Miss Maud Miles who was appointed at a meeting of the Ladies Section on Thursday 29th November 1900.

The Ladies have a full calendar of competitions, open to all active members, which are noted further in this section.

As well as the formal competitions a number of fun games are organised throughout the year, including a Texas Scramble, Mad March Day and the Dawn Chorus.
